This worksheet begins by reinforcing the definition of action verbs. Then, students are asked to identify if the bolded words in each sentence is an action verb or not. For words that are action verbs, students will circle “action”. Otherwise, they circle “not”.

Using action verbs makes a sentence more vivid and interesting, capturing the reader’s or listener’s attention by allowing them to visualize what is taking place. They come in many forms and can be used to express a wide range of actions, which helps to avoid repetition and monotony in writing or speech.
