Worksheet Description

An adverb clause gives more information about a verb in a sentence. Like adverbs, an adverb clause answers the questions how, how much, where, or when. Adverb clauses can also be used to create suspense or anticipation, to highlight important ideas or events, and to emphasize certain aspects of a sentence. On this worksheet, students will read each sentence that is provided. They will then rewrite it three ways, each time adding an adverb clause that answers the question in the left column.

By rewriting sentences in multiple ways, students expand their vocabulary and ability to express various adverbial relationships. This exercise also strengthens their understanding of sentence structure, adverb clauses, and their functions, leading to improved writing fluency and the ability to convey nuanced information. By completing this worksheet, students enhance their overall writing proficiency and learn to adapt their sentences for different purposes and contexts.
