Factors and Classify

Factors and Classify Worksheet

Worksheet Description

This worksheet presents a table where students are required to identify and list the factors of given numbers and then label each number as either prime or composite. The first row serves as an example, showing the number 25 with its factors listed (1, 5, 25) and correctly labeled as “Composite”. Students are expected to fill in the factors for the subsequent numbers: 36, 43, 47, 51, 55, 59, 60, and 61, and then determine whether each is prime or composite based on the factors they have listed.

The purpose of this worksheet is to strengthen students’ ability to analyze numbers and determine their factors, a foundational skill in mathematics. It teaches them to recognize prime numbers, which have exactly two distinct positive divisors (1 and the number itself), and composite numbers, which have more than two divisors. This exercise helps students develop their multiplication and division skills, as they must consider potential factors for each number. Additionally, the worksheet encourages critical thinking and problem-solving as students discern the pattern that differentiates prime numbers from composite ones.
