Zheng He
Worksheet Description
A long time ago, about 600 years back, there was an extraordinary explorer named Zheng He. He lived in China, which was one of the richest and most powerful countries in the world back then. Zheng He wasn’t just famous for his exploring; he was also an admiral, which means he was in charge of a huge fleet of ships. Imagine being the captain of not just one, but many, many ships!
China’s great emperor at the time, Emperor Yongle, wanted to show the world how grand and wonderful China was. So, he chose Zheng He to lead seven special sea journeys, known as the ‘Treasure Voyages’. These weren’t just any regular trips; Zheng He sailed with massive ships, some of which were much bigger than any other ships in the world at that time!
Zheng He’s fleet wasn’t just for exploring. The ships also carried precious goods like silks, ceramics, and teas. They traveled to distant lands, trading these treasures and bringing back exotic items and animals, like giraffes and zebras. He visited places like India, Arabia, and even the east coast of Africa! People from different lands were amazed by the mighty Chinese fleet and the riches it carried.
One of Zheng He’s biggest achievements was building relationships with different countries. He didn’t use force or fights; instead, he gave gifts and talked to rulers, making friends along the way. This made many countries want to be friends with China.
