Why Was United States Constitution Created?

Worksheet Description

A long time ago, before the United States was a country, it was just a group of colonies. These colonies were like neighborhoods that belonged to a country across the ocean called England. But as time went on, the people in these colonies wanted to be their own country. So, they fought a war called the Revolutionary War and won their freedom. After winning, these new states needed rules to help them work together. That’s why they made the United States Constitution.

The United States Constitution is like a big rule book for the country. It tells everyone how the country’s government should work. It also explains the rights that all people in the country have, like the right to speak freely and the right to be treated fairly.

When the states first became free, they used a different set of rules called the Articles of Confederation. But these rules had some problems. For example, it was hard for the states to work together because there wasn’t a strong central government to help them.
