Worksheet Description

Students complete a power grid by changing each root word into two different forms. They write the -ed form to show an action that happened in the past and the -ing form to show an action happening now. Students also identify the spelling rule used for each word, such as simply adding the ending, dropping a final e, doubling a consonant, or changing y to i. They finish by using selected verbs to complete their own past- and present-action sentences.

This worksheet gives students a clear way to compare both endings side by side. Writing the forms and naming the rule helps them understand why the spelling changes instead of depending on memory alone. The sentence section then asks students to use the new forms in meaningful writing. This improves grammar, spelling, rule recognition, and the ability to choose the correct verb form in everyday work.
