Theodore Roosevelt

Worksheet Description

Let’s go back in time and meet Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th president of the United States. People often called him “Teddy,” and you might have heard of the “Teddy Bear.” Well, that cute toy bear was actually named after him! But Teddy wasn’t just famous for a toy. He did many great things for our country.

Teddy Roosevelt became president in 1901. He was full of energy and always wanted to make things better. One of the biggest things he believed in was the power of nature. Teddy loved the outdoors. He liked to hike, ride horses, and even camp under the stars. Because of his love for nature, he made sure to protect it. He created many national parks, forests, and monuments so that people in the future could enjoy the beauty of nature just like he did.

Not only did he care about nature, but Teddy also believed in fair play. This means he wanted things to be equal and just for everyone. There were some big companies back then that were not playing fair. They were making things hard for smaller businesses. Teddy stood up to these big companies and broke them into smaller pieces to make sure everyone had a fair chance. This action earned him the title of a “trust buster.”

Another big thing Teddy did was to build the Panama Canal. Imagine a waterway that connected two big oceans, the Atlantic and the Pacific. This canal made it much easier and quicker for ships to travel from one side of America to the other. It was a huge project, and because of Teddy’s push, it became a reality.
