Target Dictation
Worksheet Description
Students listen as a teacher reads eight complete sentences containing commonly difficult spelling words. After hearing each sentence, they write the full sentence on the lines and underline the named target word. The target words include terms such as necessary, separate, beginning, favorite, and remember. A checklist at the bottom reminds students to review spelling, word order, capitalization, and punctuation.
This worksheet helps students connect the sounds they hear with the words they must write. Focusing on one target word in each sentence gives them a clear spelling goal while still requiring them to record the entire thought. The final checklist teaches students to review their own work instead of stopping as soon as they finish writing. This practice strengthens listening, spelling memory, sentence construction, and careful editing.
