Think, Read, Think

Synthesis #2

Worksheet Description

The “Think, Read, Think” worksheet is a reading comprehension tool that prompts students to record their thoughts and responses at three stages of engaging with a text. Initially, students note their pre-reading thoughts, followed by their reflections after reading some of the text, and finally, they document their post-reading thoughts. This process helps students actively engage with the material and monitor the evolution of their understanding. The worksheet also includes sections to write down the title and author of the text, as well as a summary of what the text is about.

This worksheet is teaching students to practice the synthesis of information and critical thinking as they read. It encourages metacognition by asking students to be aware of and reflect on their thought processes before, during, and after reading. The exercise aids in building comprehension skills by having students connect their prior knowledge to new information and re-evaluate their understanding as they gain more insights. Ultimately, the goal is to foster deeper reading comprehension and analytical skills, which are important for academic success.
