The Three Rules

The Three Rules

Worksheet Description

This worksheet is divided into three sections to provide focused practice on specific pluralization rules. In the first section, “Consonant + Y,” students will encounter singular nouns ending in “y” preceded by a consonant. Their task is to change these nouns into their plural forms by replacing the “y” with “ies.”

Moving on to the second section, “Nouns With F,” students will encounter singular nouns ending in “f” or “fe.” They will learn that to create the plural form, they need to change the “f” or “fe” to “ves.”

In the third and final section, “Add -es,” students will work with singular nouns that require the addition of “-es” to form the plural. This section provides opportunities for students to explore the pluralization pattern where “-es” is added to words ending in certain consonant sounds.

Through these three sections, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of plural noun formation and develop confidence in using plural nouns accurately in their writing.
