Rooms In The House

Needs and Wants #15

Worksheet Description

The “Needs vs. Wants” worksheet provides a practical exercise for students to explore the concept of needs and wants within the familiar settings of their home. The worksheet prompts students to consider items in specific rooms – the kitchen, bedroom, and living room – and categorize them as either needs (essentials that one cannot live without) or wants (items that are nice to have after needs are satisfied). The activity is designed to make students think about the objects around them in terms of necessity and desire, applying the concept of needs and wants to their immediate environment.

In each room’s section, students have six lines to fill in – three for needs and three for wants. This encourages them to observe their surroundings closely and reflect on why certain items are present: are they there out of necessity, or because someone in the family wants them? Through this worksheet, students learn to recognize that while some items are fundamental for daily living (like a refrigerator in the kitchen or a bed in the bedroom), other items (like decorative items or electronic gadgets) are not critical for survival. This exercise helps build awareness of consumer habits and promotes thoughtful consideration of personal and family resources, which are essential skills for responsible living and financial literacy.
