On the Line

On the Line Worksheet

Worksheet Description

This worksheet presents students with eight different numbers, each within its own box. For each number, there are two blank boxes flanking it, one for the student to write the number that is one less than the given number and the other for the number that is one more. A number line from 1 to 20 is placed at the top of the worksheet, serving as a visual aid for students to use as a reference. The bottom of the worksheet includes a “How Did You Do?” section with emoticons for students to self-assess their performance upon completing the exercises.

The educational objective of this worksheet is to reinforce the students’ ability to identify numbers immediately preceding and following a given number within the numerical sequence. It teaches them to easily determine what comes before and after any number, enhancing their understanding of number order and the concept of addition and subtraction by one. The task also aims to increase their familiarity with the number line as a tool for visualizing numerical relationships. The self-evaluation section at the end promotes reflective learning, allowing students to assess their own understanding and confidence in the skill practiced.
