Marco Polo

Worksheet Description

Once upon a time, more than 700 years ago, there was a brave explorer named Marco Polo. He was born in a city called Venice, in Italy. Venice was known for its beautiful canals and colorful buildings. But Marco Polo was interested in exploring places far away from his home, and he went on a journey that became one of the most famous adventures in history.

When Marco was a young boy, his father and uncle, Niccolò and Maffeo Polo, traveled to far-off lands. They came back with incredible stories of their journeys to a mysterious place called China. Young Marco was so inspired by their tales that when he was 17 years old, he decided to join them on their next adventure. This trip to China would take them more than three years!

The journey was not easy. They had to cross tall mountains, vast deserts, and dense forests. But the Polos were determined, and they finally reached the palace of a powerful leader named Kublai Khan. This leader was very curious about the world, and he liked Marco so much that he asked him to stay and work for him. Marco agreed and spent the next 17 years traveling around China, collecting stories and learning about its culture.

While he was in China, Marco saw many amazing things. He wrote about paper money, which people in Europe had never heard of before. He described cities with tall buildings, busy markets, and streets filled with people. He also wrote about the beautiful silks, precious stones, and exotic animals he saw. His descriptions were so detailed that when he finally returned to Venice, people were amazed by his tales. Many didn’t believe him!
