The Persuasion Playbook

The Persuasion Playbook

Worksheet Description

This worksheet begins by encouraging students to choose a topic or issue they feel passionately about and believe others should share their passion for as well. They will indicate their position on the topic, setting the stage for persuasive arguments.

The main activity involves students crafting three brief arguments to convince someone to agree with them or fulfill their desires. Each argument will be based on one of the three rhetorical appeals: ethos, pathos, and logos. Students will carefully consider the appropriate use of each appeal to strengthen their arguments and effectively persuade their audience.

Through the lens of ethos, students will focus on establishing their credibility and trustworthiness, appealing to the values and beliefs shared with their audience. With pathos, they will tap into the power of emotions, employing vivid language, personal stories, and imagery to evoke empathy and create a strong emotional connection. Lastly, with logos, students will utilize logical reasoning, evidence, and facts to present a compelling case that is grounded in rationality.
