Think, Feel, Act

DBT Therapy #8

Worksheet Description

The “Think, Feel, Act” worksheet is a reflective exercise derived from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), designed to help students analyze how their thoughts influence their feelings and actions. The worksheet directs students to recount a recent event where their emotions felt overwhelming, prompting them to dissect the situation by describing what happened, how they felt, what thoughts they had, and how they reacted. This introspective process encourages students to recognize the connection between their emotional responses and their behaviors.

In the second part of the exercise, students are guided to reimagine the same event with a different mindset. They are asked to consider alternative thoughts that could have arisen in that scenario and to explore how these new thoughts could alter their emotional response. Subsequently, they reflect on how this shift in emotion and perspective could lead to a different behavior. The worksheet aims to teach students that by changing their thought patterns, they can influence their emotional states and, consequently, their actions. It serves as a practical tool for developing emotional regulation skills and for understanding the cognitive-behavioral relationship, a cornerstone of DBT. This awareness empowers students to manage their reactions to challenging situations more effectively.
