Worksheet Description

This worksheet, titled “How Many Sides?”, is designed to engage preschoolers in learning about the characteristics of various geometric shapes. It features four primary sections, each with a different polygon: an octagon, a decagon, a heptagon, and a trapeze (trapezoid). The task for the children is to count the sides of each shape and then circle the number that corresponds to the correct count from the options provided.

For each shape, there are three numbers given as possible answers. For the octagon, the numbers are 6, 8, and 4; for the decagon, they are 9, 5, and 10; for the heptagon, the options are 7, 8, and 6; and for the trapeze, the numbers to choose from are 8, 4, and 6. This exercise not only helps children with shape recognition and counting skills but also encourages them to analyze and compare different polygons. At the bottom of the worksheet, a “How Did You Do?” section with smiley faces allows children to reflect on their performance, fostering a sense of self-assessment and boosting their confidence as they learn. This worksheet is a valuable tool for early childhood education, promoting both cognitive development and an enjoyment of mathematics.
