Subordinate Clauses

Complex Sentences #7

Worksheet Description

This worksheet is a two-part exercise on identifying and creating complex sentences. The first part presents students with sentences that are already complex and instructs them to underline the subordinate clause in each. These sentences include conjunctions that typically introduce subordinate clauses, such as “though,” “as soon as,” “now that,” and “in order that.” The second part provides simple sentences and prompts students to add a subordinate clause to each, thereby turning them into complex sentences.

The purpose of the worksheet is to teach students about the structure of complex sentences and how subordinate clauses contribute to them. Initially, students practice identifying subordinate clauses, enhancing their ability to recognize complex sentence patterns. Then, by adding subordinate clauses to simple sentences, students learn how to construct complex sentences themselves. This exercise is designed to improve their writing skills by introducing variety and depth into their sentence construction.
