Om this worksheet you will read the statement that is being presented and then determine the purpose of the written work. Authors write for different reasons. An author writing to persuade takes a position on a subject and tries to convince the reader to think, do, or believe something. An author writing to inform gives factual information about something. An author writing to entertain appeals to the readers senses and/or emotions.

This is sometimes referred to as an author’s choice activity or worksheet.
