Connecting Texts

Worksheet Description

The Articulating Implications worksheet is designed to deepen a student’s engagement with a text by connecting it to their prior knowledge and experiences. It prompts the student to identify the main idea of an assigned text and then make connections between this text and other texts they have read, as well as to knowledge and ideas they already have about the subject of the text. Furthermore, the worksheet asks the student to link the text to things they already know or believe, thereby contextualizing the information. Finally, it encourages students to think critically by identifying at least one implication of the text’s main idea based on their prior knowledge.

This worksheet is teaching students to integrate new information with their existing knowledge base, a key skill for comprehensive understanding. By making connections between the text and other literature, students enhance their intertextual analysis skills. Relating the text to their own knowledge and beliefs helps them to personalize the learning process. The task of identifying implications based on prior knowledge fosters critical thinking, as it requires students to consider the broader effects and relevance of the main ideas within the text.
