I Can Fly High Worksheet

Worksheet Description

You will find 5 distinct birds. Match each of the birds to the sounds that they would most likely make in nature.  You may need to research 1 or 2 of these animals to make sure that your match is correct.

This worksheet is centered on a matching exercise, specifically tailored for young learners, featuring a variety of bird illustrations on the left and different onomatopoeic words on the right. Each bird is placed next to a dot, which students are meant to connect with another dot next to the sound that the bird makes, depicted by words in speech bubbles on the opposite side. The birds displayed include an owl, a magpie, a duck, and a chick, among others. The corresponding sounds are “GOBBLE,” “QUACK,” “HOOT,” “CAW,” and “CHIRP,” which students need to match correctly to each bird.

The goal of this worksheet is to familiarize students with the sounds that specific birds make, reinforcing their ability to recognize and associate sounds with the correct bird species. It serves as an engaging way to introduce students to onomatopoeia, the formation of a word from a sound associated with what is named. This task also helps to enhance students’ auditory discrimination skills, enabling them to differentiate between various bird calls. Additionally, the activity promotes the development of fine motor coordination through the act of drawing lines to connect each bird to its sound.
