You will read the passage and answer a series of questions.   The Aztec empire was a group of wandering tribes who settled together in central Mexico. The Aztecs referred to themselves as the “Mexica.” Scholars referred to this civilization with the word Aztec a few centuries later, and it has been used ever since. The Aztecs had a very strong military, and they expanded their territory by conquering neighboring tribes. They would then allow each conquered tribe to continue to rule itself, provided they paid a tribute to the empire.
