Active Volcanoes

Active Volcanoes

Worksheet Description

Earth is home to many fascinating volcanoes, but not all of them are active. An active volcano is one that has erupted in the past and might erupt again in the future. Scientists carefully monitor these volcanoes to keep us safe and understand our planet better.

As of now, there are about 1,500 active volcanoes on Earth. That may seem like a lot, but our planet is huge, and most of these volcanoes are not currently erupting. Some of them might erupt once in a while, while others stay quiet for thousands of years.

When a volcano is active, it means there are signs of volcanic activity, like earthquakes or steam coming from the vent. Scientists study these signs to predict when an eruption might happen. They also look for changes in the volcano’s shape and gas emissions.
