This worksheet is most suitable for students who have grasped the differences between the three types of verbs: action verbs, linking verbs, and helping verbs. On this worksheet, they need to underline the verb in each sentence and write whether it is an action, a linking, or a helping verb.

These are the three main categories of verbs in the English language. Action verbs express a physical or mental action performed by the subject of a sentence.  Linking verbs, also known as state of being verbs or copulas, connect the subject of a sentence to additional information about its state or quality, often in the form of an adjective or noun. Helping verbs, also known as auxiliary verbs, are used in conjunction with main verbs to provide additional information about the main verb’s tense, mood, or voice.
