Fiction Fusion Framework
Worksheet Description
This worksheet, titled “Intertextuality – Fan Fiction,” is about planning a piece of fan fiction by actively engaging with the concept of intertextuality. It guides the student to identify a text they will reference in their writing and to define what type of text it is (such as a novel, film, song, etc.). The worksheet then asks what aspects of the original text the student intends to reference, like characters, setting, genre, or style. Finally, the student is prompted to briefly summarize what their fan fiction work will be about, tying together their ideas and the elements of the original text they will incorporate.
The worksheet is teaching students about the creative process of producing fan fiction as a form of intertextual writing. It encourages them to think critically about how texts can be interconnected and how they can creatively borrow and transform elements from an existing work to create something new. This exercise helps students understand the influence of pre-existing narratives on new creations and allows them to explore the depth of their own creative writing skills. Additionally, it provides a structured approach to developing their own stories by building on the foundations of works they admire.
