Discovering Words Together

Worksheet Description

This ‘Literature Circles worksheet’ is designed for the Word Wizard role, which focuses on expanding vocabulary and exploring unfamiliar words encountered during reading. As a Word Wizard, your task is to investigate, deduce meanings, and lead discussions about these words. Use this worksheet to excel in your role:

  1. Start by noting the ‘Title of Book’ and the ‘Assigned Passage’ (page numbers) where you found the challenging words.
  2. Create a table with columns for ‘Word,’ ‘Page,’ ‘What I Think It Means,’ and ‘Dictionary Definition.’
  3. For each unfamiliar word, record it in the ‘Word’ column, specify the ‘Page’ on which it appears, and make an educated guess about its meaning in the ‘What I Think It Means’ column.
  4. Look up the word in a dictionary and provide the ‘Dictionary Definition.’
  5. Lead a group discussion about each word, sharing your findings and inviting insights from your literature circle.

This worksheet empowers Word Wizards to unravel the mysteries of language while enhancing their peers’ vocabulary.
