Worksheet Description

Students sort twenty changed words into groups based on whether they end in -ing, -ed, -er, or -est. All of the examples come from silent e base words that were changed before the suffix was added. Students then separate selected forms into their base word and suffix and complete a short launch challenge with new roots. The spaceport theme turns suffix sorting into organizing cargo for takeoff.

This worksheet helps students see how changed words can be grouped by their endings and uses. Sorting makes the differences between actions, completed actions, comparisons, and superlatives easier to notice. Breaking words back into a root and suffix also improves understanding of word structure. This builds spelling, classification, morphology, and confidence creating new forms independently.
