Lexicon Recovery

Lexicon Recovery Worksheet

Worksheet Description

Students restore fourteen advanced words that have each lost three letters. The letters that remain give partial clues, but students must decide exactly which missing letters complete each term. After rebuilding a word, they copy the full spelling correctly on the line. The redacted-file theme makes the activity feel like recovering important information from a damaged archive.

This worksheet teaches students to study the inner structure of long vocabulary words. They practice recognizing roots, syllables, prefixes, suffixes, and familiar letter groups. Writing the whole word after filling the blanks provides an extra chance to remember the correct spelling. This strengthens word recognition, spelling memory, patience, and independent checking.

This worksheet is part of our 9th grade spelling words worksheet series.
