Letter Sleuth

Letter Sleuth Worksheet

Worksheet Description

Students act as spelling detectives who must solve the mystery of a missing classroom prize. Each incomplete word is missing three letters, so students study the remaining letters and rebuild the correct sixth-grade spelling word. After finishing each word, they collect one requested letter and record it as evidence. The collected letters are then placed in order to reveal a secret message that explains where the prize was hidden.

This activity helps students use word structure and letter patterns instead of relying only on guessing. Rebuilding incomplete words strengthens their memory of difficult spellings and teaches them to check whether every letter belongs in the correct place. The secret-message task also gives students a reason to work carefully because one incorrect letter can affect the final answer. This supports stronger spelling, attention to detail, logical thinking, and independent checking skills.

This worksheet is part of our 6th grade spelling words worksheet series.
